Join us during the United Nations General Assembly
(UNGA81)
for the
5th Annual New Approaches Summit on Tobacco Control and Harm Reduction, on
Friday, September 25, 2026, at the Harvard Club of New York City and via Zoom livestream.
We will reconvene to discuss policy, science, innovation, and investment–reinforcing that prevention, cessation, and harm reduction are not competing strategies but complementary approaches that can save millions of lives, reduce inequities, and accelerate progress toward the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In order to achieve these honorable goals, the conference will explore why and how dialogue matters. Too often, stakeholders for both tobacco control and harm reduction converse in stagnated echo chambers, which are siloed in never ending hostitlity with each other.
The New Approaches conference was devised to tear down the wall between polarized groups, making progress year by year as only collectively can we end smoking.
This year's meeting will be held in loving memory of Scott Ballin (May 5, 1952 – January 1, 2026), a seminal figure in tobacco control and nicotine policy.
Ballin was a fearless bridge-builder, who spent over 40 years navigating the contentious landscape between public health advocates, the tobacco industry, and regulatory bodies. His career was defined by the pursuit of "negotiated common cause"–a philosophy that prioritized dialogue and mediation over ideological warfare.
Once again, the
5th Annual New Approaches Summit will take place
on Friday, September 25, 2026. A Welcome Reception will take place on the evening of Thursday, September 24, 2026, ahead of the summit.
